I have been teaching for over 20 years. My hometown is Elkhart, IN. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana and a Master's degree of teaching from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I hold a Level III Schulwerk Certificate of music education and attend numerous conferences and workshops that teach this approach to music education. I became a nationally board certified teacher in 2011.

Hello, my name is Anna Nester. I grew up in North Carolina where I attended The School of Education at UNC-Greensboro. The Dual Major
program at UNCG allowed me to get my degree in Elementary (K-6) and
Special Education (K-12). Prior to teaching second grade at Gilbert
Linkous Elementary, I taught seventh grade Math and Language Arts to
students with disabilities. I also taught inclusion classes with the
general education teachers in all subject areas.
I am proud to say that I have thoroughly
enjoyed my move to Virginia. The surrounding communities are beautiful
with the amazing mountain backdrop. This community has also been very
welcoming and the parents here are all involved and interested in the
education of their children. I am grateful to have found and to have
been welcomed to such a wonderful school – GLE really is the place to

I received my Master’s Degree from Radford University with endorsements in Elementary Education PreK-6, Special Education-Adapted Curriculum K-12, and Special Education-General Curriculum K-12. I taught Title I Reading and Math in Giles County for three years and I also taught two years at private therapeutic schools for students with autism. I originally came to GilbertLinkous in 2011 as a special education paraprofessional and fell in love with Special Education. I returned to Gilbert Linkous in 2013 as a special education teacher. I have piloted and am currently running the new Learning Lab program for our kids with autism here at Gilbert Linkous. I recently became a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
